Eye-catching modern house converted from an old heritage church in Australia

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Placed in Brisbane, the beautiful capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland, this eye-catching house was creatively converted by Willis Greenhalgh Architects from an old heritage church into a modern, spacious and comfortable family home. Explaining the project, the developers said: “First a church then a theatre, a slice of Brisbane’s heritage has been saved from demolition and transformed into two striking luxury homes.

The existing buildings date back to 1867 and are heritage listed. Extensive community and heritage consultation ensured the balance between conserving the integrity of the buildings, the subtle introduction of contemporary elements, and the relationship with the surrounding area.
