Stedelijk Museum Schiedam – a fabulous museum in The Netherlands

Named Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, the marvelous museum that we feature here is known as a municipal museum for exhibiting modern art and great works from renowned artists such as Karel Appel, Lucebert, Constant and Corneille, etc.
Placed in The Netherlands, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam has been recently transformed by MVRDV into a fascinating place that immediately captures visitors’ attention due to its royal, stunning and exquisite architecture and interior design.

Aiming at preserving the original architecture of a neoclassical Giudici chapel, which until recently stood neglected, the architects creatively combining all the demanded programs in a series of large book shelves consisting of the reception desk, wardrobe, the museum store, the cafe counter and various spaces for displaying art.

“With one clear and monumental gesture, we have combined many functions whilst at the same time keeping the space as open and usable as possible. The design is respectful towards the impressive and grandiose yet at the same time austere chapel, whilst adding qualities the space lacked, providing new functions.”, explained Nathalie de Vries on behalf of MVRDV.
