Can't Afford An Appartment? Here Are Some Budget Accommodation Options You Might Like To Consider

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

If you’ve been saving for years and you’re still nowhere near the amount you need to purchase a modern apartment, perhaps it’s time you looked at cheap alternatives? While the suggestions we’re about to make won’t be suitable for everyone, some of you might find them interesting. All the accommodation solutions listed in this post will reduce initial spending. They will also ensure you live in an environmentally-friendly manner. We don’t expect you to go out and start making arrangements straight away, but reading about these alternative homes could help to inspire you.

For most of the suggestions we’re going to make, you will require at least a small area of land. That means you’ll have to purchase some privately, or from your local authority. The only way of getting around that is if you can find a farmer or landowner who is willing to let you use their space for small rent payments or assistance in their business. Just take a quick read through and see if anything sounds viable.

Yurt

Yurts have become very popular over the last few years as the new trend of “glamping” has taken hold. That form of holiday is simply for rich people who feel like they want to experience nature without the need for setting up their own tent. However, yurts make for brilliant accommodation. You can purchase a good quality yurt for less than $13,000 these days, so buying one shouldn’t break the bank. Best of all? They are waterproof and capable of housing stoves and fires.

Portable cabins

There are lots of companies around at the moment that specialise in the supply of portable cabins. While most of them deal mainly with construction firms that wish to house their site workers, there are a few who sell accommodation cabins to the general public too. Small portable cabins are perfect if you own some land, but you can’t afford to purchase or build a traditional home. You can get these for as little as $7,000 - sometimes even cheaper if you shop around online.

Log cabins

If you’re lucky enough to find some land for sale within a small woodland or forest, you might consider building or purchasing a log cabin. These are very different to the portable cabins we mentioned a moment ago. Decent size log cabins function in much the same way as a traditional home with bedrooms, electricity and even plumbing in some instances. To make your own, you’ll have to get permission from your local authority to cut a few trees down. For that reason, it usually makes more sense to buy a flat-packed solution. It should take two people around one week to erect a log cabin of that nature.

Of course, you always need to be careful that you’re complying with local laws and regulations. In some countries, you will have to jump through a lot of hoops to live in the manner we’ve just described. That is because governments expect you to pay tax on permanent dwellings. However, there are ways of getting around that.

We hope you try something new soon!
